WIN-It-Wednesday: Hope Paige Design’s Medical Alert Bracelets
I wear one. I wear it all the time. I never take it off. I’d never leave home without it.
What am I talking about? My medical alert bracelet.
I wear my medical alert bracelet because I am allergic to penicillin and sulfur drugs. My allergy is so bad that I become anaphylactic if I take even a small amount of either of these two drugs. I learned my lesson the hard way after having the scare of my life, and a trip to the emergency room that I, or my family, will never forget.
My anaphylactic reaction to these drugs is the same reactions many have that are allergic to various food allergies; nut allergies, peanut allergies, shellfish allergies – plus more. There are also other conditions where people should wear medical alert jewelry including: autism, diabetes, dementia, taking certain medicines like Coumadin or Warfarin, heart disease, arrhythmias, pacemakers, asthma, or children with special needs.
That’s why it astonishes me that so many adults and children with food allergies don’t wear medical alert bracelets.
Medical alert bracelets “talk” when you or your child can’t. “The mistakes that we see when there are reactions in school often have to do with dropping the guard because of lack of education…” said Dr. Scott Sicherer, a professor at pediatrics at Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at Mount Sinai Medical Center. “[Have] the child wear medical identification jewelry to keep that in mind.”
My thoughts? If you would tell an emergency room doctor about any condition you or your child have – a medical alert bracelet should be worn with that info on it.
Hope Paige Designs is a company that makes medical alert jewelry and medical identification bracelets that aren’t just functional, but fashionable too. After checking out the Hope Paige website you’ll see that medical alert bracelets have come a long, long way. Say goodbye to the ugly, super huge, cheapo, old-man looking, “one-style and size-fits-all” medical alert bracelets that have been worn for years and touted on flyers stuffed in a “take one” holder on every pharmacy counter in the country.
Hello Hope Paige! The company that makes medical alert bracelets fashionable and fun.
Hope Paige has medical alert bracelets that will appeal to kids, tweens, teens, 20-somethings, Moms, business-people and everyone in-between! I like the fact that Hope Paige designs “gets it”. No one wants to wear a gawd-awful looking piece of jewelry that draws unneeded attention to their condition.
This is especially true with children. It’s hard enough for kids having food allergies, diabetes, or other conditions that may make them feel different. Throwing a clunky medical bracelet on top of that doesn’t make things easier… but Hope Paige changes that. Their focus is on fashion and finding a way to add function without sacrificing the “hipness” and fashion of the bracelet. Hope Paige Designs provide a medical alert bracelet that’s stylish for kids and doesn’t even look medical – so that kid’s can be more comfortable in their own skin.
Some of the most popular (and my favorite!) medical alert bracelets sold by Hope Paige include the thin and thick black rubber bands, thin pink rubber bracelets, Pandora style bracelets, rope knot bracelets and stainless steel heart link bracelet. Hope Paige Designs also offers free engraving with every bracelet ordered.
The next two (2) weeks WIN-It-Wednesday’s on BeFreeForMe.com is sponsored by Hope Paige Designs. They are offering two (Yes…2!) LUCKY BeFreeForMe members a chance to win the medical alert bracelet of your choice! One winner will be selected from all entries received before Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11:59PM EST. The second winner will be selected between all entries received between Wednesday, May 4 and Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 11:59PM EST.
How can you win? Easy! Check out the Hope Paige Design’s website, reply to this blog and tell us what bracelet you would want to win!
Good luck, be safe…yet fashionable… and as always,

That multi-color crystal bracelet is cute and would go with anything! I like the Pandora styles, too. I had no idea medical alert bracelets had come so far; I may just have to order one if I don’t win.

I like the silver chain link or the thin pink rubber. I really should wear one because of all the drug allergies I have. I would want something very light weight to ensure I would wear it all the time. A medical alert bracelet is something I hadn’t thought about. I definitely need one. Thank you.
April 27th, 2011 at 6:46 am
I’ve worn the same old bracelet for years and had absolutely no idea there were such beautiful options!
I will definitely be ordering a few to wear for casual, business and just for fun!

I’m really torn between the beautiful Woven Three Rope bracelet with that gorgeous blue band and the Six Color Stainless Steel Fashion Medical Bracelet. I have Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease. My Alert bracelet recently broke and I can’t afford to replace it, so this would be a tremendous blessing.
April 27th, 2011 at 8:41 pm
Thank you for taking the time to come up with such a beautiful idea!! I’ve had to wear the chunky unbecoming medical bracelets one to many times and was grateful to see someone create a more becoming way to stay medically safe!! I especially like the recycled Aluminum Handmade in the USA Multi Color design.

May 2nd, 2011 at 9:57 am
I would LOVE the thin green rubber bracelet. I’m allergic to gluten and dairy and also take many medications for my illness called Dysautonomia. Wearing this would help alert people of my conditions and how to take the necessary precautions to help me when I’m unconscious or in trouble otherwise. This is such a great idea!
May 2nd, 2011 at 11:08 am
We have been picking out a bracelet from another website and were just about to order when I saw this chance to win. We would LOVE to win! My first choice would be for my daughter, who has Asperger syndrome and Celiac. We were chosing a bracelet or necklace for her as a medical alert for first responders that she is in the autism spectrum. In a panic situation, it is unpredictable how she would respond so I want to ensure that she is taken care of by a calming individual who will use patience and understanding until a family member can arrive. She is allergic to gluten, dairy, soy, pecans, olives, yeast, potatoes and carrots.
I have Celiac. I am allergic to gluten, soy, dairy, seafood, legumes, Latex, sulfa, chicken and cranberries. Our choice would be the thin pink rubber bracelet.
Please pick one or both of us!!!
Kalli and Tracy

May 3rd, 2011 at 3:04 am
I would very much like to have one of the bracelets. I am a Senior Citizen and I fall a lot. Lucky for me ,I haven’t hurt anything major yet but all it takes is one close call. I’m at home by myself a good part of the time and I fear falling & ending up with a broken hip or worse. I also have Angina,Neuropathy, COPD,and Fibromyalgia. I have hearing loss also and a number of other problems. If I’m lucky enough to get one, I’d like the Pandora Style .It’s very lovely !
May 3rd, 2011 at 6:23 am
What a great selection of Medical Alert jewlery that doesn’t scream-look at my medical condition. What a fabulous selection for all age groups. The Pandora’s are great and it’s good to see a selection from recycled materials too. It would be fantastic to win one of these.
May 3rd, 2011 at 6:54 am
THESE BRACELETS ARE GREAT! I AM UNDECIDED ON STYLE. IT WOULD BE FOR MY 4 YEAR OLD SON WHO IS ALLERGIC TO GLUTEN AND HAS AUTISM. SO SOMETHING COOL FOR A LITTLE BOY YET MAKING IT CLEAR ABOUT THE MEDICAL ISSUES.
May 3rd, 2011 at 8:21 am
I would LOVE to win the black thick rubber medical ID bracelet for my 21 year old son! He is celiac, allergic to penicillin and sulfur drugs! He had to go to the hospital Saturday evening after stepping on a rusty nail and I almost flipped when he said they gave him an antibiotic but calmed down when he told me he told them no penicillin or sulfur drugs. I just kept thinking, “what if he were ever not able to speak and let the doctors know?” He is hardly ever sick and I worry in a panic situation that he might forget to tell them no penicillin or sulfur! He is very active and this style would be great for him!
May 3rd, 2011 at 11:33 am
I LOVE these bracelets! I have severe allergies to medication *and* foods. My daughter was also recently diagnosed with food allergies. I have one of those old-fashioned clunker bracelets that I’ve always been too embarrassed to wear, but started wearing several months ago (realizing that it’s ridiculously stupid to NOT wear it). I’ve been thinking about getting one for my 5-year old. She would LOVE the purple girl bracelet!
May 3rd, 2011 at 4:50 pm
I just the adore the pink ID bracelet. My daughter was just diagnosed 3 months ago with Celiac’s and she is in the 7th grade, so she has been through QUITE alot! She is also a runner and this would be perfect for her because I am not always right there and this would definately alert others to her condition.

May 4th, 2011 at 11:32 am
I forgot to inform you that I am a celiac “survivor” also. I say survivor because today I feel soooooo much better than I have for a very long time. I am 66 years old and have only been diagnosed three years ago. For years I have had symptoms, though not as severe as others I have heard of, but still enough to make me unhealthy since being a child. Today, being gluten free, I am a healthy little old lady and loving life.

This is a great selection! I like the pink plastic bracelet and the Pandora style for my daughter. Maybe someone out there can help me? We had a plastic case for the old epi-pen style that didn’t look so scary. It had a sticker where you could write your name, your Dr’s name and emergency phone numbers. Since epi-pen changed their shape, it will not fit in the old plastic case that we have. I have not been able to find a new one. Does anyone have suggestions where we can find this epi-pen case?
