WIN-It-Wednesday: Starfish Gluten-Free Seafood
When people ask me what food I miss the most since going gluten-free one of the things that pops into my mind are fish & chips.
Ahhh… the memories. Nicely battered, browned and crispy on the outside with a delicate, white and flaky fish on the inside. These memories bring me back to when I was growing up. We had fish and chips on most Fridays, and always during the Lenten season. It was a sort of tradition, and a weekly staple. But since being on a gluten-free diet most anything that is labeled as “crispy” and “battered” have been off limits, and battered fish has been a distance delicious memory of yesteryear. That is why I was more than thrilled when I found gluten-free Starfish seafood.
Starfish makes a wide assortment of all natural gluten-free seafood items. They offer the battered cod, halibut and haddock that fit the bill when you are looking for a traditional just-as-you-remember battered fish; as well as their two newest items – gluten-free fish sticks (deep skinned Pollock fillets from the MSC certified fishery) in a delicious & crunchy Panko breading, and a Parmesan encrusted Pacific cod (also from the MSC certified fishery).
These all-natural and wild-harvested fish are gluten-free, soy-free, milk-free, peanut-free, egg-free “ready-for-your-oven” fish are all delicious. And coming from a gal that grew-up on Cape Cod I have discriminating tastes when it comes to my seafood!
So being the seafood lover that I am, I was more than thrilled that Starfish is the Win-It-Wednesday sponsor on BeFreeForMe for the next two weeks.

i have recently been diagnosed with an yet to be determined intestinal disease, so the last dr i saw suggested i eat a gluten free diet which as most no has come to a shock to my system. the stores in my area do not carry much of a selection so i basically eat fresh produce and bland meats, i have always been a fishstick kinda gal and now i am unable to eat even that. i would love to be able to win so that i may be able to enjoy a bit of my past while struggling to get a grip on my future. thank you

I am a sucker for battered halibut. I miss it SO much. There is a place in Portland, OR (two hours north of me) where I can get it. I leave early every time I have to pick someone up or drop someone off at the airport so I can treat myself. A rare treat!

I use to love eating at places like Captain D’s and Long JohnSilvers. But now that I am not able to digest Wheat, Soy or dairy I gave up on eating Batter dipped flaky goodness. So now I am excited that they developed a product that I can eat!!! Can’t wait to try it!!!

Can’t wait to try the Cod, Halibut, Fish Stick, etc. Wasn’t expecting to find such an amazing product when looking in the frozen fish section in my local Price Chopper store yesterday. I paired it up with a frozen GF Mac n’ cheese and had a DELICIOUS supper. Just had to check for a website and “liked” on Facebook as well. Would LOVE to win some coupons!

I missed fish sticks since finding out I was sensitive to wheat (so I eat gluten free by default). I am so, so happy I found these – prepared some for dinner and OH, the memories! I am so happy to have found something I thought I could never have again – better (and healthier!!) than any fish stick I can remember!! Food can be attached to such fond memories of childhood and I am finding ways to have the stuff I loved as a kid while being good to my body.
March 25th, 2013 at 12:54 pm

Yummmmm…….crispy fried fish with tartar sauce and chips with ketchup……..I miss fish and chips and have tried to recreate it in my own home without much success. Only place I’ve been able to get it is at Legal Seafood and it is awesome but it’s too expensive to eat out there verty often. I would love to try all of the gluten free fish products described here!

I have tried this company’s seafood and was in HEAVEN while eating it. I would love to see them come out with gluten free crab cakes. If they did, I’d definitely buy them as I have the gluten free cod. Yummy!
March 27th, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Any fish but not roasted! I don’t like fatty foods. It’s nice to have that in their products too.
March 28th, 2013 at 8:41 am

March 28th, 2013 at 9:14 am
I miss fish and chips!!!! Growing up in Plymouth, MA I ate a ton of fish and chips growing up but since I went gluten free, nary a one has passed my lips. When I was pregnant with my second son, I craved fish and chips and there was nothing I could do about it. So my choice would have to be the cod.
March 28th, 2013 at 1:44 pm
These products sound good. I would love to try the cod.
March 28th, 2013 at 7:03 pm
I love fish and chips. Since I have to eat gluten free my choices are limited, so I would love to try this battered fish.
March 29th, 2013 at 6:56 am
The battered halibut sounds good. Thank you for the giveaway.
March 29th, 2013 at 9:27 am
Crispy fried fish? Sounds impossible … but I’m willing to try this product! For the past six years, my seafood has been poached, steamed or baked — none of those are crispy! Bring it on!!!
March 29th, 2013 at 10:45 am
I miss crispy fish sticks!
March 30th, 2013 at 7:49 am

Dying to try thr halibut!
April 1st, 2013 at 10:19 pm
I love the Fish Sticks and both varieties of breaded Shrimp. Even my nonglutenfree mother loves their shrimp over other brands.
April 2nd, 2013 at 12:17 am
Mmmm….. fish, the best meat. I like to try a fat free one!
April 2nd, 2013 at 6:21 am
I’ve never tried halibut.
April 2nd, 2013 at 12:44 pm
I would love to try any of them. But mostly the halibut. I live in Washington state and when we would go to the beach we would stop in Astoria Or. at the Bow picker and have fish and chips made with tuna. But it is not GF so I no longer get that. So now turn me loose on this stuff and I will be piggy out again.
Also would really like to know where the place is in Portland that Karen was talking about. She posted on March 20th, 2013 at 12:03 pm
