Five Spice Shrimp
This is actually a recipe that was created to be an appetizer, but can easily be served over salad greens and served as the main course! Five Spice powder can be found in most major grocers, or in Asian specialty stores.
2 teaspoons five-spice powder
2 tablespoons sesame oil (or use olive oil if avoiding sesame)
½ cup of garlic oil (I use Marconi brand) or vegetable oil
¼ cup gluten-free soy sauce
¼ cup rice wine vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste
2 pounds of cooked, shelled medium or large shrimp (not extra large or jumbo since they become messy when eating as a “pick-up” appetizer!)
Combine all ingredients (except for the shrimp) in a medium sized bowl; whisk to blend well. Next add the shrimp and toss to coat. Refrigerate and marinade for 4-24 hours; tossing periodically during marinade time.
Serve cold with tooth picks or on small plates with forks.
Serves 8 as an appetizer.
